An appropriately soothing beach palette of sand and pink.

Ocean Drive remains South Beach’s most exclusive address, and here is where one discovers Miami icon the Tides. Set in a 1930s-style Art Deco building constructed by L. Murray Dixon, it is now an airy space with high ceilings and a massive terrace after an overhaul from designer Kelly Wearstler. In the lobby, an imposing white driftwood sculpture separates the lobby from the restaurant. This dramatic feel is also captured in the 45 guestrooms, where Wearstler dreamed up an appropriately soothing beach palette of sand and pink finished in materials like gleaming mosaic terrazzo and burnished bronze. The array of antiques, hemp-cloth walls, and faux-animal-hide rugs is certainly eye-catching. The biggest draws, however, are the unobstructed Atlantic Ocean views—even if the deep soaking tub in the striking 900-square-foot Amber suite is the best perch of all.
